Introduction to silicon photonics (basic building blocks, importance and challenges). Optical waveguides in silicon photonics (types and characteristics). Passive and active optical and optoelectronic components in silicon photonics: optical couplers, optical resonators, optical modulators (mechanisms and modulation characteristics), optical sources and detectors for use in silicon photonics. Integration and application of optoelectronic devices in the field of silicon photonics
