Ability to understand the principles of operation and the construction of different types of lasers, their properties and applications in practice.
Laser physics. Basic types of lasers (gas, solid, liquid). Semiconductor laser technology (heterojunction laser diodes, ECL, DFB, DBF and VCSEL laser diodes). Laser radiation modulation. Construction of impulse lasers (Q-switching and mode locking). Laser radiation interaction with materials and main mechanisms of action. Industrial and medical applications of lasers. Contemporary achievements in the field of laser technology.
