Subject: Selected Chapters in Neural Prosthesis (17.DBMI14)

Native organizations units: No data
General information:

Category Scientific-professional
Scientific or art field Biomedicinsko inženjerstvo
Interdisciplinary Yes
ECTS 10
Educational goal:

The goal of this subject is that the students master techniques used for restoring lost physiological functions of a man. This implies that in practical problems they are capable of coming up with and projecting a system with open , and especially with closed feedback suitable for restoring motor or sensor functions.

Educational outcome:

The expected outcome of this subject are the skills the students will master like problem recognition, projecting systems, modeling, realization and readjustment of neural prosthesis parameters for different purposes. Students will be acquainted with the newest scientific discoveries from this area and the results which are being developed in home and foreign research facilities.

Course content:

Detailed analysis of neural prostheses and the directions of scientific research, algorithms and techniques which are currently being developed by different research groups around the world in ares such as: neural prosthesis for heart assistance(pacemaker, simulation of the vagal nerve, implantable defibrillators), neural prosthesis for establishing hearing(cochlear prostheses), neural prosthesis for sight restoration: cortical, retinal, transplants, neural prosthesis for establishing breathing, neural prosthesis for controlling the urinary tract, neural prosthesis for pain control, neural prosthesis for movement control(restitution of manipulation and catching, restitution of standing and walking), deep brain simulation, spinal cord simulation.

Teaching methods:

Lectures , consultation. Research study.
