The objective of the course is to enable students to actively study the scientific literature and participate in the s research work in the field of Geographic Information Systems and Technologies.

The student is able to actively study the scientific literature and conduct the study research work in the field of Geographic Information Systems and Technologies.

Importance and role of geographic information systems (GIS). Spatial data infrastructure (SDI). Spatial reference systems. Spatial data acquisition. GNSS, photogrammetry, remote sensing. Modelling of spatial entities, angle models, geometry, spatial topology and topography. Decomposition of spatial elements. Architecture of GIS systems. Spatial data bases. Interpretation and presentation of spatial data. Mapping and visualisation. Standardisation in the field of Geographic Information Systems and Technologies – OpenGis, ISO TC211. Implementation of GIS technologies in different fields. Mechanisms of spatial data exchange. XML, GML, LandXML. Geometry scheme, topology scheme, topography scheme. Exchange datum. Geoportals. Architecture of geo-portals. A part of the course work is conducted through independent individual research study work in the field of Geographic Information Systems and Technologies. The research study work requires the student`s active and constant interest in and reading of the primary scientific resources, the organisation and conducting of experiments, numerical simulations and, optionally, writing a paper in the field of Geographic Information Systems and Control.

Lectures, seminar paper, tutorial work. Research study work.
