Through lectures, exercises and research students will be familiar with the text, graphemes, drawings, and images as basic elements of visual communication and graphic design, their transformation, and the conceptual and formal diversity in relation to narrative and rhetoric of visual messages. Introduction to graphic design elements in space likewise in a digital environment.

The course provides: understanding of the essential characteristics of image as one, and text as another visual statement and their mutual connection in realization of specific visual totality; mastering individual production of the projects in the field of graphic design; acquiring ability to understand and critically analyse contents created by combining different visual elements; acquiring knowledge of production requests necessary for realization of complete project in the domain of graphic design.

The term of graphic design. Analysis of graphic image. Elements, composition and structure of graphic image. Letter sign and typography. Use of lettering in graphic expression. Composition of graphic sheet. Symmetry and asymmetry. Detail and totality. Use of colour in graphic design. Graphic material production technique. Creation dependence on production technique. Basics of graphic technique and media. Use of photography in graphic design. Language of graphic design and graphic design as a communication media.

Workshops, practical sessions, consultations. Workshops consists of lectures and discussions about student and professional art works. During the semester, students work continuously on creation of the portfolio – the semester project.
