General information:

Category Scientific-professional
Scientific or art field Architectural-Urbanistic Planning, Design and Theory
ECTS 10

Preparing students for advanced analysis of the shape and structural properties of architectural structures.

The ability to visualize the flow and magnitude of forces within spatial architectural structures, as well as mastering the principles of their shaping and finding optimal equilibrium configurations.

Development of architectural structures and constructional principles in architecture. Advanced methods of the visualization of forces and load transmission. Graphical and numerical methods of equilibrium analysis of architectural structures. Funicular structures. Arches. Complex trusses. Complex bearing structures. Spatial structures. Optimization of the shape of architectural structures. Aesthetics of architectural structures.

Analysis of form as a primary property of structure. Visualization of forces and analysis of equilibrium configurations using methods of graphic statics aiming for intuitive understanding of the behaviour of complex architectural structures. Analytical and numerical modelling of equilibrium of selected architectural structures using software for graphical algorithm editing and symbolic mathematical computation.
