Enabling students to observe, research, analyse and evaluate different functions of architectural and urban form. Enabling students for adequate programming, coordination and integration of functions in architectural structures and urban space of contemporary settlements of all sizes and types.
Ability and competencies for critical observation and creative use of different functions of architectural and urban space. Acquired knowledge should be utilised in further education and professional advancement, as well as in specific design tasks with architectural and urban topics.
Architectural and urban form - term and definitions. Form as a product of space rethinking. Functions in architecture and urbanism. Utilitary function. Functions related to morphology, physical structure, space and ambiance. Functions related to society, culture, economy, ecology and politics. Functions related to techniques and technologies. Functions related to arts and aesthetics. Functions related to philosophy and ideology. Classification and hierarchy of functions.
Teaching is performed via lectures, with the tutorials with each student regarding the task of elaborating a seminar paper.
