The basic goal of the course is enhancing the knowledge about particular phenomena of Modern architecture, which appear across the former Yugoslavia and region, and which are comprehended and considered in relation to context of modern time, globally taken. Another goal of the course is to enable students to comprehend and elaborate these topics while using research and scientific apparatus, which is adopted in course exercises, and present them in comprehensible and creative way.
The student become capable of starting research process, by using the knowledge gained in courses dealing with Modern epoch. The final outcome of the course is to make student capable of creating and conducting their own research process, while using their knowledge, experience and scientific apparatus, and, if possible, give contribution in the field of modern architectural history of our context, with new data.
The course deals with general and particular phenomena in Modern architecture, which are being problematically and thematically grasped. The topics that course covers are following ones: detailed consideration of specific topics in the of global development of geo-political context of Modernism and post-modernism, with particular consideration of architectural schools, theoreticians and persons which defined discourses through their practice and theoretical work; particular courses of Modernism and post-modernism, influential for architecture of the region: Third world Modernism, East European Modernism; socialist Modernism; Yugoslav Modernism; architectural praxis of the time.
