Acquiring basic knowledge about the basics, terminology and meanings of universal design and the application of the world-important design principles for all, which are based on different physical, spatial and semantic levels. Within this course, students will gain knowledge related to strategies and design of accessible elements on many spatial levels that they encounter every day, and which are essential for the comprehensive functioning of individuals and society. The goal of the course is to familiarize future experts in the field with the basic elements of legislation, analyze the spaces around them, and initiate possible contemporary directions and ideas in the design of public spaces through their projects.

By applying a thought concept such as universal design, which does not only refer to the issue of accessibility and overcoming spatial obstacles in order to be accessible for people with a temporary or permanent disability, students will be able to acquire basic knowledge and perceive public spaces and their design with aspect of equality and participation of all users in all spaces and activities that are established in public places. Through this course, students will acquire and develop the ability to perceive potential barriers and obstacles of any type in space, and how to initiate proposals for their possible overcoming through reasoned analysis.

Getting to know the terminology and principles of universal design; Understanding the diversity of users and their perception and understanding of the environment; Study of ways in which space can be used; Observing and recognizing all types of barriers in space and the possibility of their removal; Levels of application of universal design and importance of universality of communications; Exploring contemporary experiences of universal design.
