The objective of the course is enabling students to analyse stresses and strains occurring in structural elements, as well as to solve statically determinate and indeterminate problems. Dimensioning of structural elements.
The acquired knowledge enables students to recognize and analyse stress and strains in elastic bodies. They develop the ability to the dimensioning of constructive elements. Students are capable to individually solve problems in the field of strength of materials. Acquired knowledge will be used by students in further education.
Stress analysis. Stress tensor. Principal stresses. Extreme values of shear stresses. Strain analysis. Strain tensor. Hook`s law. Planar stress condition and planar strain condition. Conditions for compatibility. Hypotheses on strength of materials. Geometrical characteristics of cross sections. Principal moments of inertia. Axially loaded rod. Statically indeterminate problems in axially loaded rods. Torsion. Statically indeterminate problems in torsion. Bending of the beams. Stresses in inclined plane. Axially loaded members subject by eccentric load . Cross section core. Elastic deflections of beams.Statically indeterminate beams. Strain-energy method. Betty-Maxwell`s theorem. Castigliano`s theorems. Maxwell-Moore`s method. Verescagin`s method. Solving statically indeterminate systems. Euler`s method for stability analysis. Critical force for some characteristic cases. Limitations for Euler`s cases. Tetmajer`s method. Hypothesis on failure.
Lectures. Auditory practice. Consultations. In lectures, the theoretical part of the course content is presented and complemented by characteristic examples. In practice, additional tasks are completed to broaden the lecture content. Regularly, in previously determined terms, consultations are held every week.
