Course specification

Course is active from 02.09.2017..

The aim of this course is to develop theoretical basis and practical knowledge from the area of modern technologies of bulk and sheet metal forming in cold and hot condition.
The outcome of this course are developed knowledge and skills necessary for: • metal forming process analysis • metal forming process design • die design for specific metal forming methods • machine and equipment selection for manufacturing by metal forming methods
Impact and role of metal forming in modern manufacturing; Theoretical basis of metal forming processing (stress and strain theory and their relation, material plasticity, friction and lubrication, process parameters); Modern bulk metal forming methods (hot and cold rolling methods, upsetting, hot and cold extrusion, forging, precision forging…); Modern sheet metal forming methods (sheet metal bending, profile bending, tube bending, deep drawing, embossing, hydroforming); Microforming; Die design for bulk metal forming methods in hot and cold state; Die design for sheet metal forming processes; Metal forming machines (shearing machine, presses – mechanical and hydraulic, hammers, automated presses); Metal forming production lines and plants; Additional equipment.
Basic of aspects of course are lectures, laboratory and computer exercises and practical work. All course aspects include student interaction. At lectures, student develops theoretical knowledge of metal forming processing, learns theoretical basis of specific metal forming methods, and is introduced in detail with the die design and selection of equipment necessary for the manufacturing by metal forming processes. At laboratory exercises, student is introduced to metal forming methods through sample, die and machine presentation, then actual metal forming process is performed and process parameters are validated using theoretical knowledge. At computer exercises, student develops specific knowledge necessary for die design (CAD software) and by himself develops the die for required product.
