The course aims to enable students as future engineers to integrate components of strategic thinking in order to adapt to the demands of the new economic and social processes and global trends. The educational goal is reflected in the fact that the future engineer should be familiar with possibilities of combining technical and economic dimensions of business of an organization.
Acquiring practical knowledge that enables future engineers to use basic principles, techniques and tools from the fields of economics, finance and accounting, and thus provide adequate engineering support in realization of tasks of financial, accounting, purchasing and sales functions, as well as their coordination with other business functions in an enterprise. The positive outcome of education is reflected in the development of the ability to harmonize technical and other processes with economic demands arising from the enterprise and its environment
Introduction to the macroeconomic environment and institutions. The basic monetary and fiscal terms relevant for the business of an enterprise. Types of enterprises by ownership equity. Corporate Governance. Business functions of an enterprise. The importance of financial and accounting functions. The financial statements and their use in the enterprise. Instruments and methods of financial statements’ analysis. Introduction to basic types of expenses. The cost of fixed assets and methods of depreciation. Cost calculation. Break- even point. The role of managers in the budgeting process of an enterprise. Key performance indicators. Financing business and development of an enterprise through the issue of shares and bonds, loans, leasing and factoring. Introduction to financial markets, instruments.The importance of working capital in the business of an enterprise.
Lectures are based on combination of relevant theoretical and practical knowledge. During the lectures and exercises audiovisual aids are used. Exercises are auditory. Analysis of specific examples from enterprises and case studies. Individual and group consultations. During exercise classes work in groups is encouraged in order to get familiar with the main economic, financial and accounting terms in the business of an enterprises in the local and global socio-economic environment.
